How the sleep calculator works
It counts backward or forward in approximate 90-minute blocks and includes your estimated time to fall asleep. Results emphasize opportunities for roughly 7.5 or 9 hours of sleep.
Important: Real sleep cycles are not always 90 minutes. Age, sleep history, substances, health and normal night-to-night variation all matter. Use this calculator for scheduling, not for medical decisions.
How much sleep do adults need?
Many adults function best with at least seven hours on a regular basis, but individual needs vary. Persistent insomnia, severe daytime sleepiness, loud snoring or pauses in breathing deserve professional medical attention.
